Sub: Coverage of Beedi establishments and workers.

Madam/Sir,

Hon’ble Minister while replying to the Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 1353 on 7.12.2015 regarding number of Beedi workers working in various parts of the country has informed to the Lok Sabha that there are 48,12,358 beedi workers (Annexure 1) in the country.

2. Hon’ble Minister while replying to another Unstarred question no. 1900 on 11.2016 regarding Beedi workers getting Provident Fund benefits informed the Lok Sabha that there are 10,79,076 are Provident Fund subscribers under EPF & MP Act,1952. Whereas, as per the Annual Report 2015- 16, there are 7906 Beedi establishments with 38,73,339 members.

3. Therefore, as part of ongoing Employees’ Enrollment Campaign -2017, it is advised to identify the uncovered Beedi establishments as well as unenrolled employees, and ensure social security benefits to all the eligible and left out employees under the schemes of EPF & MP Act, 1952.
