Financial assistance to anti-Sikh riot victims

As per records, 3325 persons killed in the 1984 riots out of which 2733 persons were killed in Delhi.

The Ministry vide its letter dated 16.12.2014 sanctioned payment of additional compensation to the Next of Kin of the deceased persons on the following criteria:-

(i) In addition to the amount already paid, the Next to Kin would be given enhanced relief of Rs. 5.00 lakh per deceased person;

(ii) The concerned State/Union Territory Governments would identify legal heirs of the deceased persons with all other relevant details;

(iii) As approved earlier by the Central Government, the State/Union Territories would disburse the money from their own funds and Ministry of Home Affairs would reimburse the amount on receipt of Utilization Certificates from the States/Union Territories.

The Govt. of NCT of Delhi has reported that enhanced compensation amount of about Rs. 85.67 crores has been disbursed as on 31.01.2016.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary in written reply to a question by Shri Sultan Ahmed in the Lok Sabha today.
