List of payments allowed with Rs 500/ 1000 Notes
As the Government of India has declared that currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 denominations will not be valid from midnight of November 8, 2016, citizens will have to surrender the old notes at any branch of a bank or post office to get the new notes.
However, Economic Affairs Secretary, Shaktikanta tweeted that such old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 would be valid till November 11, 2016 for payment of utility bill like water, electricity, etc. He further said that such old notes can also be used for payment of fees, taxes and penalties to the Central and State Govt. including Municipality and local bodies.
Earlier the Govt. had allowed acceptance of old notes till November 11, 2016 for making payment for following purposes:
1) Making payments in all pharmacies on production of doctor’s prescription and proof of identity;
2) Making payments on all toll plazas;
3) For purchase of LPG cylinders;
4) For making payments to catering services on board during travel by rail;
5) For purchasing tickets for travel by suburban and metro rail services;
6) For purchase of entry tickets for any monument maintained by the Archeological Survey of India.”.
7) For making payments in the Government hospitals for medical treatment and pharmacies in Government;
8) Hospitals for buying medicines with doctor’s prescription;
9) At railway ticketing counters, ticket counters of the Government or the Public Sector Undertakings buses and
10) At Airline ticketing counters at airports for purchase of tickets;
11) For purchases at consumer cooperative stores operated under authorisation of the Central or the State Governments;
12) For purchase at milk booths operating under authorisation of the Central or the State Governments;
13) For purchase of petrol, diesel and gas at the stations operating under the authorisation of Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies;
14) For payments at crematoria and burial grounds;
15) At international airports, for arriving and departing passengers, who possess specified bank notes, the value of which does not exceed five thousand rupees to exchange them for new notes having legal tender character;
16) For foreign tourists to exchange foreign currency or specified bank notes, the value of which does not exceed five thousand rupees to exchange them for new notes having legal tender character.
17 ) for making payments towards any fees, charges, taxes or penalties, payable to the Central or State Governments including Municipal and local bodies;
18) for making payments towards utility charges including water and electricity.”
