On Board Catering Services in Trains

A policy guideline on “Ready to Eat Meals” was issued to Zonal Railways on 30.01.2015 wherein all Mail/Express trains running with pantry car have been covered to serve precooked ‘Ready to Eat meals’ as an ‘add on’ option under the category of a-la-carte to the passengers. Non-provision of the ‘Ready to Eat meals’ by the licensees will be treated as a deficiency in service for which a penalty clause has been stipulated in the Policy. North Western Railway, the nodal Railway nominated to select reputed Ready-to-eat Companies/ firms has empanelled four firms viz. (i) Gitwako Farms (I) Pvt. Ltd, (ii) BTW India Pvt. Ltd., (iii) Gits Food Products Pvt. Ltd and (iv) Aryan Food Products Pvt. Ltd. to provide ‘Ready to Eat meals’ to the passengers.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on 24.02.2016 (Wednesday).
