Passport application to be processed based on Employer acknowledment

MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

NOTIFICATION

New Delhi, the 26th April, 2017

G.S.R. 410(E).—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 24 of the Passports Act, 1967 (15 of 1967), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Passport Rules, 1980, namely:—

1. Short title and commencement:—

(i) These rules may be called the Passport (Amendment) Rules, 2017.

(ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. In the Passport Rules, 1980 (herein after referred to as the said rules), in Schedule III, in Section V, in Annexure ‘H’, the following “Note” shall be inserted, namely:-

“Note : The Prior Intimation Letter (under this Annexure) shall be accepted by the Passport Authority for processing the passport application if the same bears the signature and seal of the employer of the applicant acknowledging its receipt.”

Foot Note : The Passports Rules, 1980 were published vide Notification Number G.S.R. 691(E) in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (i), dated 11th December, 1980 and last amended vide Notification Number G.S.R. 1171(E), dated 26th December, 2016.
