RBI awarded for Innovation in XBRL Reporting

The XBRL International, the global custodian of the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) standard awarded the ‘ XBRL International Award for Excellence ’ to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The award has been given to the Reserve Bank in recognition of its efforts in ‘Innovation and Continuous Pursuit of Improvement in Regulatory Reporting’.

In a short ceremony held on January 22, 2016 at the Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai, Mr. John Turner, CEO of XBRL International presented the award and it was received by Shri R Gandhi, Deputy Governor, RBI. Shri G Mahalingam, Executive Director, RBI, other officials from the global XBRL community and the XBRL team, Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM), RBI were present.

During the award ceremony, Mr. Turner appreciated the Reserve Bank for the widespread use of XBRL standard in its data collection system. He particularly mentioned that the approach taken by the Reserve Bank in implementing XBRL is quoted extensively in the global forum. Officials from global XBRL community wished the Reserve Bank success in developing more such innovative ideas which will benefit the regulators around the globe. XBRL has been adopted by around 60 countries and around 100 regulators around the globe and this global recognition is indeed a matter of great pride for the Reserve Bank.
