After filing your return, taxpayers may find that they made a mistake or omitted some information on your statement. Usually an amended return is not necessary if a taxpayer makes a mathematical error or lacked attach a required form. Normally, the IRS will correct math error and notify the taxpayer by mail. Similarly, the agency sent a letter requesting any missing form.
