1.  Register yourself to file Income Tax Return

Register yourself on the website www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in . Create your account .Permanent Account Number (PAN) will be your user ID.

2. Check 26AS to file Income Tax Return

 your tax credit statement — View Form 26AS . The statement will reflect the taxes deducted and actually deposited with income tax department by your employer or by other tax deductor like Banks etc .The TDS as per your Form 16 must tally with the figures in Form 26AS. If you file the return despite discrepancies, if any, you could get a notice from the Income Tax department

3 Download form  to file Income Tax Return

Under the ‘Download’ menu, click on Income Tax Return Forms and choose  relevant Assessment Year (for financial year 2014-15 AY 2015-16 ) . Download the Income Tax Return (ITR) form applicable to you. If the applicable form is ITR-1 or ITR 4S, you can complete the process on the portal itself, by using the ‘Quick e-file ITR’ link.

Open the downloaded Return Preparation Software (excel utility) and complete the form by entering all the details , using your Form 16, Form No 16 A and other particulars of Income

5. Calculate the tax before proceeding to file Income Tax Return

Ascertain the tax payable by clicking the ‘Calculate Tax’ tab. Pay tax (if applicable) and enter the challan details in the tax return.

6. Validate all the date of excel utility before proceeding to file Income Tax Return

Confirm all the information in the worksheet by clicking the ‘Validate’ tab.

7. Generate XML File from excel utility to file Income Tax Return

Proceed to generate an XML file and save it on your computer. ( You may be required to save the XML file after creating “Fakepath” folder under C drive of your computer )

8. Upload the XML return  to file Income Tax Return

Go to ‘Upload Return’ on  website. www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in  and upload the saved XML file after selecting relevant Assessement year and the relevant form. You will be asked whether you wish to digitally sign the file. If you have obtained a DS (digital signature), select Yes. Or, choose ‘No’.

Once the website flashes the message about successful e-filing on your screen, you can consider the process to be complete. The acknowledgment form — ITR—Verification (ITR-V ) will be generated and you can download it.

9. Download acknowledgment form after filing of Income Tax Return

11. Do Electronic Verification after filing of Income Tax Return

Do electronic verification of Your income tax return by clicking on the link for Electronic Verification if you don’t want to send acknowledgment to Banglore . In this PIN no is send at your mobile and E mail ID if your Income is less than 5 Lakh or you dont claim refund.

If income is above 5 Lakh or you claim refund,  you can login to income tax website by your Netbanking account.

10. Send acknowledgment to Banglore  after filing of Income Tax Return

If you have not done Electronic verification than you need to Take a printout of the form ITR-V , sign it preferably in blue ink, and send it only by ordinary or Speed post to the Income-Tax Department-CPC , Post Bag No-1 , Electronic City Post Office, Bangalore – 560 100, Karnataka, within 120 days of filing your return online.
