Notification No. 34/2016-Customs dtd 19.05.2016

Seeks to further amend notification No. 96/2008-Customs dated 13.08.2008, so as to carry out the following changes:

  1. to omit ‘Samoa’ and ‘Maldives’ from the list of countries eligible for preferential tariff under the said notification;
  2. to amend the name of ‘Republic of East Timor’ as ‘Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste’.

Notification No. 34/2016-Customs

New Delhi, dated the 19th May, 2016

G.S.R. (E).– In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby makes the following further amendments in the notification of the Government of India, in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue), No. 96/2008-Customs, dated the 13th August, 2008 published vide number G.S.R. 590 (E), dated the 13th August, 2008, namely:-

In the said notification, in the Schedule,-

i. entries against serial numbers 5 and 21, shall be omitted;

ii. for the entry against serial number 24, the following entry shall be substituted, namely:-

“Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste ”

Note: The principal notification no. 96/2008-Customs, dated the 13th August, 2008 was published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, sub-section (i) vide number G.S.R. 590(E), dated the 13th August, 2008 and was last amended by notification No. 12/2015-Customs, dated the 10th March, 2015, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, sub-section (i) vide number G.S.R. 177(E) dated the 10th March, 2015.
